Dental Crowns in Harker Heights
Dental crown restoration is one of the most versatile dental repair solutions we offer at Market Heights Family Dental. Crowns are used as an integral part of many restorative and cosmetic dental services including:
- Correcting severe chips, cracks, and fractures
- Concealing cosmetic flaws with conservative treatments like bonding or veneers
- Finalizing root canal therapy to renew dental structure and protect treated teeth
- As part of single tooth implant supported tooth replacement
- To support traditional fixed bridge tooth replacement prosthetics
The goal of dental crown restoration is to maintain the natural alignment of patients’ smiles and protect damaged or decayed teeth from further damage preserving healthy dental structure. Dental crowns can be crafted from a variety of high quality materials including gold, metal, porcelain bonded to metal, and ceramic. While the gold and other metal options offer durability, they mar the natural appearance of smiles making them a less than ideal option. Porcelain bonded to metal restorations offer superior cosmetic quality after placement, but years of daily wear begins to reveal the darker colored, supportive metal below. For many patients, we recommend all-ceramic crowns precisely shaded to match patients’ smiles. Even after years of wear, they maintain their naturally beautiful appearance blending seamlessly into smiles.
The dental crown placement process typically requires two visits. During the initial appointment, we prepare patients’ teeth by removing a minimal amount of dental structure so the crown blends seamlessly within the natural smile line. Then, we collect bite impressions that are used by a lab to craft custom dental crowns. While the personalized restoration is being crafted, our team places a temporary to protect the prepared tooth. Once the lab returns the custom crown, patients return to our office to exchange the temporary for the final solution.
